Mark Bastasch to present Short Course on Noise on 11th June

A half-day introductory course on the fundamentals of acoustics, specifically designed for those with little to no background in acoustics or engineering and those interested in learning more about wind turbine noise, is planned for the afternoon of Tuesday 11th June 2019. This course will help to set the scene for those without specialist knowledge or limited exposure to acoustics. There is a separate registration fee for the course of 100 euros plus VAT, including course notes. The goal of this session to provide the first building blocks for those interested in learning more about acoustics with an emphasis and examples from wind turbines. Discussion and questions are highly encouraged. The Course will cover:

  • Sound and decibels, basic math and weighting’s (A, C, etc.)
  • Sound power and sound pressure
  • Sound levels and human hearing
  • Human response to noise
  • Industrial and transportation Sources of noise
  • Sound propagation
  • Noise criteria (regulatory approaches for various sources)
  • Basics of noise from wind turbines
  • Advanced and special interest topics (upon advanced request)
